PATRAS

The history of this inhabited with over 500 thousand people island dates back to the roman period. According to town’s tradition a martyr’s death of Saint Andrew apostle took place there. This town is worth of visiting thanks to its interesting climate, many attractions which are cannot be found in any other part of the world. In Patras you can for sure eat well and go for unforgettable shopping and take part in many kind of occasional events.


TOURIST ATTRACTIONS

Although the town is lacking in old Greek monuments, none of the visitors can complain about lack of attraction. The most important building in Patras is undoubtedly Saint Andrew’s Church (Agios Andreas). This, built on the place of old Demeter’s Temple, building is the biggest from Greek Temples. According to tradition, Saint Andrew martyr’s died here. Inside this amazing building there are relicts which were given back to town by Pope - Paul VI.
Dominating over Patras remains of Frankish Castel, from which you can admire great view on the town and sea, may interest you. The factory of wines, Achaia Clauss, which is located on the outskirts is to visitors’ disposal. There are bottles with sweet wine and red wine which comes from the time when the factory was being created. You can freely look at the technologies of arising of wine. Very interesting might be also the ruins of medieval castle and the only gothic church in Greece.
If you want to visit a place which presents the equipment of Mycenaean tombs and old Greek vases and sculptures you have to step in Archeological Museum in Patras.

ENTERTAINMENT
When it comes about exotic experience only in Ouzeri (They are locals in which there are served alcohol drinks created from grapes). In places like that the night life of Patras in concerted. During the carnival, which lasts 3 months, the town is teeming with life. On the last there in the centre of town a great, grand parade takes place.
During the summer festival, which starts in June and lasts till the middle of September, there are traditional ancient Greek plays. There are also rock concerts in roman Odeon and there are also photographic exhibition organized.
